The MSHP will investigate a pursuit in New Madrid County that ended with deputies fired upon the vehicle, disabling it. According to the Sheriff’s Department, deputies intercepted a vehicle pursuit yesterday afternoon at the New Madrid County line on Interstate 57. Missouri State Highway Patrol troopers in pursuit of the vehicle reported that the suspect had hit at least one car and continued southbound on the interstate.
The vehicle left the roadway in New Madrid County, and during the process of the arrest New Madrid County deputies fired their service weapons, rendering the vehicle disabled.
The suspect was not hit by gunfire and the deputies were unharmed; the suspect was taken into custody without further incident.
Sheriff Joey Higgerson requested the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Division of Drug and Crime Control investigate the officers’ use of force.
