Efforts are underway in Caruthersville to restore a historic water tower. Chairman of the Historic Water Tower Preservation Committee, Donald Jeffries, says construction on the tower — located on West Third Street — started in 1902 and was finished the next year.

The committee is working with the Jeffris Family Foundation. The Wisconsin group works to restore structures like this and Jeffries says they’ve devised a two-phase plan for the tower.

There are several ways to give to the project. A Go Fund Me account is set up if you’d like to donate. The city has distributed donation containers to various businesses around Caruthersville. You can send a check to the city — in care of City Hall, 200 West Third Street, 63830. On the check memo, please write Jeffris Heartland Fund.
