Newbern, TN., mayor terminates City Recorder despite city attorney’s recommendation to reinstate

At the Tuesday, April 24, meeting of the Newbern, TN., council meeting Newbern Mayor, Justin Wright, announced his decision to terminate City Recorder Jason Roberts, despite the recommendation of City Attorney John Lannom, to reinstate the city recorder.

Newbern City Recorder Jason Roberts was placed on administrative leave on Friday, April 13,  with pay pending an investigation into allegations made against him in a formal complaint.

In a formal letter addressed to Roberts from Newbern Mayor Justin Wright, two grievances are outlined, both pertaining to the mishandling of incidents occurring within the Newbern Police Department.

Roberts was instructed by the mayor to refrain from correspondence with Newbern Aldermen and all other city employees, while an investigation was conducted into the allegations.
